Our students were off to a very creative start this school year. We began the year by creating a collaborative Motivational Mosaic Mural to encourage the students to work together. Students each had the opportunity to complete a piece of the Mosaic using analogous colors, and patterns. They did not know what the mural was going to look like until all the pieces were placed in their designated spot on the mural. Looking forward to sharing more of our students' art work!!

Our 6th graders at Willets Road used the Collage technique to create Mosaic style Art inspired by one of several different Old Master, POP or Contemporary Artists. Students got to pick two artists at random and perform some research to learn about each artist's life and what made their art and creative careers successful. After learning about both artists, students chose one and their favorite work by that artist to recreate the Masterpiece into a collage Mosaic. Students used their iPads to do research, grid their reference images and then proceeded to draw from the grid onto a gridded canvas. After the contour drawing was finished students "colored" it in by gluing colorful, recycled magazine paper to match the Masterpiece. It was a lot of work, and the students also practiced a lot of patience and dedication to finishing them. All students did a fantastic job!! |
