The last few weeks of Studio in Art was dedicated to learning about the 6 Categories of light & shadow and how to create shading in light layers by using a series of HB, 2B, 4B & 6B shading pencils. Students were able to successfully create the illusion of 3D Form by drawing the 6 categories of light & shadow on the four basic forms. They are now ready to put their observational and shading skills to the test in a still life for the last part of our black & white drawing unit. Below are some examples of our students' work. Congratulations to Danielle R. for being chosen as our student of the month for December with her Shape to Form study.

Studio in Art students are off to a great start this year and just completed the Signed Silhouette observational drawing project. Students learned about the deaf artist Chuck Baird and how important visual communication has to artists and people with similar disabilities. Their goal was to visually communicate through American Sign Langauge and Illustration. Students learned about Line, Observational Drawing, Grid Enlargment, shading, and how to create balance in a composition. Here are a few completed examples. Congratulations to Phallan G. for being chosen as our student of the month for November with her "Quack" drawing.
